The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
