Users Coming Off Slimming Jabs Put On Pounds Far More Rapidly Compared to People Using Diet and Exercise

Weight management often requires long-term strategies.

A recent study indicates that patients who stop using popular slimming jabs like Wegovy and Mounjaro tend to recover reduced body mass far faster than those who halt conventional lifestyle programs.

Research printed in a leading health publication shows that while overweight people often shed about a fifth of their total mass while on the medication, the weight is regained at an average rate of nearly a kilo each month upon discontinuation.

"Users purchasing these drugs must be cognizant of the danger of fast weight regain when the treatment concludes," stated expert Dr. Susan Jebb.

This pace of regain suggests a return to original weight in about one and a half years.

Analyzing Treatments

The analysis, which examined 37 of studies involving over 9,000 of participants, contrasted the effects of GLP-1 agonists with older methods.

The team point out that people who shed pounds through dieting typically have a more gradual weight regain—approximately 100 grams monthly—after stopping.

Understanding the Fast Rebound

Nutrition scientists propose the way of the injections explains the amplified weight return.

These medications copy a body's own chemical called glucagon-like peptide-1, which moderates feelings of fullness.

"Sustained high doses of the hormone concentrations far above than normal might result in the system to generate a reduced amount of its own natural GLP-1, and could reduce responsiveness to its actions," explained Dr. Adam Collins, a dietetics specialist.

"Withdrawal of this hormone supplement leads to appetite is unsuppressed, making overeating far more likely."

A Chronic Disease?

Medical guidelines suggest the jabs for individuals with weight-linked health risks, alongside prescribed diet and exercise modifications.

A number of clinicians contend that, given the likelihood of relapse, the treatment might need to be life-long.

This opinion is reinforced by pharmaceutical companies, who say that the results "emphasize the long-term character of obesity," comparing it to managing conditions like high blood pressure.

User Experiences

Individuals who have stopped the medication describe a sudden resurgence of cravings.

"It was like a switch that goes on and I was suddenly starving," described a patient.

This challenge is exacerbated if patients have not established sustainable dietary or behavioural changes during treatment.

Widespread Interest

Figures show that millions of adults in the UK have tried these injections in the past year, with interest remaining high.

  • Adoption is more common among females compared to males.
  • The middle-aged age group shows the highest usage rates.
  • Many obtain the medications through private healthcare rather than public health services.

In conclusion, experts stress that while the jabs are powerful tools for shedding pounds, they are not a magic solution and lasting health benefits relies on combined behavioural changes.
